I was watching an episode of Law And Order: SVU the other night, about a particularly gruesome gangrape/murder, and i mused to myself, is exposure to violence hardening society to the point where it is percieved as a 'normal' occurence. Myself, i think so. Violence is reported on the news with a complete lack of emotion. In some cases it is even glorified (The Soprano's). Here's the thing, I don't mind advertisements, as long as they're advertising products that are worth buying (immediately discounting informercials), or they advertise sales. So the Sultana Bran advert with the stupid family that just start singing a catchy little jingle ripped off from a mowtown song makes me shiver in anti-consumeristic pain. What is this ad saying? That if you buy Kelogg's Sultana Bran that you will become some mutation of the Von Trapp's and start singing tuneful me...
